6/28 - Greg took kids bowling today with 9 other kids from the
neighborhood (and their parent or Nanny). Sounds like kids had fun
seeing friends from school. The older girls liked seeing Kasey and
another younger girl. Both kids got strikes. Landon got highest score
of older kids with 94 he thinks. One of the little brothers got 114.
Kasey finished up first sesson of preschool at applecreek for the
summer today. They toured the world and learned about Mexico, Russia,
South Africa and Japan. They had a passport with flags and an airline
ticket to fly around the world. For South Africa Kasey made handprint
lion and giraffe which were really cute. They made flags from the
countries. Fun stuff. I tried talking to Kasey that Greg and I have
been to Japan and South Africa and she wasn't overly interested. I
should have put together stuff to take up there for South Africa, but
just didn't have time.
6/25 - Kasey has decided over the weekend that she will make her
bed. She said Grammy taught her, Grammy said she didn't. Landon said I
taught them (but he is thinking of putting sheets on bed). anyway, she
very proudly makes her bed up every morning. I guess it's good that
someone in the house does :)
We were eating dinner and Landon was walking back to the table with
something and started singing Bam Chicka Bow Wow - My eyes got huge and I
asked Greg where that came from. Obviously he hasn't been watching
adult movies. Anyway, apparently there is a song on Sirius/XM kids
station that has that in it. Of course he thought it was funny that I
made a big deal out of it and kept doing it. Kasey even started in.
Great!!
6/20-6/24 - Greg and I took a long weekend just to two of us at Lake
Tahoe. We have friends that own a condo up there, and so they let us
stay at their place. We flew into Reno Wednesday night so we didn't
see much that night. We had just gotten passes for the admirals club
so we used those and got a drink and quick food. They came to us on
the plane and said they had 1 upgrade seat - I said I would take it. In
summer 2010 that happened on the way home from Spain and I let Greg
have that upgrade. I figured it was my turn :) He tried to get
sympathy on facebook but it didn't work.
Thursday morning we woke up and got to see how pretty and green
it was. We took our time and went to a late breakfast down near the
lake. Then we walked around by the water and talked about getting Jet
skis or something later in the stay (if we had only known that was our
warmest day there). We headed up to area right by where we were
staying and walked around some. Not to much going on, it's still early
in summer season there.
Someone had recommended that we go to the Truckee Thursdays. They
have local restaurants and crafts/stores set up tents, a beer garden and
live band. So we went to check it out. It was like a mini Taste of
Addison with very different people :) People watching was great.
Friday morning we got up and had breakfast in the Northstar
Village then were going up the Mountain. We took the Gondola up to mid
mountain then took the lift up further. We hiked across to another
lift and went around some more near that lift. Then we took the lift
back down to mid mountain and walked the rest of the way down. We hiked
about 3.34 miles and went down about 500 feet in elevation. We thought
that was pretty good. Then we had lunch in the Village and watch
European Championship soccer.
After that we decided to go play some tennis. I warned Greg that
there would be lots of laughter. I'm really bad at Tennis. We played
around for about an hour after which he said, remind me not to play
tennis with you anymore and don't let Landon see you play. Oh well, we
had fun. Then we went over to the jacuzzi and pool to hang out for a
while.
That night we were scheduled for a sunset sail. We got ready and
headed to the marina. It was pretty chilly and windy, but it was still
fun. Captain Mike took about 14 of us out on the boat. They provided
us with beer and some snacks. We motored out for a while then they put
up the sails about 3/4 way because it was so windy. We sailed out
further, then headed back. It was about 2 hours and a fun experience.
After that we had dinner at local restaurant that was really good.
We actually were in our first earth quake. The seat and building
started shaking for a little while, and Greg looked it up that is was
about a 4.1 earth quake centered about 11 miles from where we were.
Saturday morning I got to sleep in until 8:45 which I never get to
do. We were pretty lazy all day. I finally got in the shower about
10:45, and then we headed to a local restaurant for lunch and to watch
soccer. After that we drove around the lake some - so pretty. We did a
little climbing around on rocks at one of the rest stops. Then we
headed back - I was tired and fell asleep. We stopped back at Kings
beach to walk around. There were guy wind surfing with parachute like
thing and their feet connected to the board. One of the guys would let
it pick him up into the air 10-15 feet. We headed back to our place
to hang out for a while.
I took another nap and by that time it was getting late and we didn't
really feel like going out. We had hummus, breadsticks, fruit and beer
in our place so we sat at the table with a nice view, watching dirty
Harry and eating our little dinner. It worked for us and was relaxing.
Sunday morning we had to get up to head back for our flight. We
checked out, and headed to Reno. We had a little to eat at our place,
then had a muffin. Several other people were having beers or Bloody
Marys so we joined in :) We both ended up getting upgraded on the
flight back which was good.
The kids were excited to see us, but they were tired. I think they got up early most of the time we were gone.
6/17
- We had pretty good fathers day. We got up and went to breakfast the 4
of us at Cafe Brazil - Greg's choice. Then we headed home to get
ready for the pool. For a little while we had the pool to ourselves
then some other families started joining. We had a good time. Landon
has started trying to dive for things in the pool in the shallow end.
Kasey still tries to swim around more than she should. We really have
to keep an eye on her.
After fun pool time we went to see Madagascar 3. We all loved it.
It's based in Europe and I wondered if people who haven't been to France
or worked with people from Europe would get a lot of the humor. We
thought it was great and loved the movie.
That evening we had good fathers day dinner with my dad at
Paesanos in Plano. Great Italian food and good company. We got some
really cute family pictures that we put on facebook.
6/16 -
Greg and I both got to work out. He rode his bike early, and then I
went to later aerobics class. It was a great stress relief class. We
were going to go to lunch and movie with the kids, but both of them
threw a fit going to lunch. We just went home to eat and they both had
to go to their rooms. Needless to say they didn't get a movie that day.
6/11-6/15 - I was in Oslo, Norway for work this week giving
training to our FAEs from around the world. First day we worked until
after 10pm. Easier to do there because the sun is up in summer until
11:30pm or so. The next day we got to go on a 4 hour boat ride. We
had shrimp on the boat. They brought out big bowls of shrimp cooked but
with heads still on. The way they eat it is to take a piece of bread,
put butter on it, peel and put a bunch of shrimp on it, squeeze lemon on
it and then put mayonnaise on it. It was a lot of work, but good.
Some of the guys weren't to sure about it. With it being light so
late, its easier to stay up later :)
Friday morning coming back, my flight was delayed an hour. This gave
me very little time for my connection in London. Someone met me at
the plane, took me to a bus, and then I had to go in fast track lines
and they were calling the gate at each checkpoint. Once I got my ticket
past security I had to run to make the flight. I made it, but just
barely.
When I got home Greg and kids came to pick me up. One of my favorite
things is seeing the kids run towards me with smiling faces when I come
out of customs. Kept them up later than normal, but it was worth it.
6/10 - Greg got up to ride his bike and kids and I watched a little TV
and rested. We headed to the pool with two of our neighbors and the
kids all had fun playing together. It was fun for adults to catch up a
little as well. We grabbed a quick lunch on the way home and slowly
took showers after we ate. Then we played Uno Attack that Landon got
for his birthday. It was fun to play as a family. I finished packing
and then we headed out for quick dinner at Zorbas. The kids were quite
tired. My mom and dad came to get me at Zorbas to take me to the
airport (going to Norway for the week with work) so the kids could get
home and rest.
6/9 - our original plan for the day didn't work out. Greg and Landon
went to Birthday party for one of Landon's school friends. Kasey and I
ran errands, had a lunch data at ChickfilA, and did a little shopping
at Kohls. We had a fun girls day. Then we all met up at home, and I
took kids to another friend's birthday party. Both kids were pretty
tired when we went to dinner. Maybe they will sleep in :) HAHA
6/8 - I got to go out with a few ladies from the neighborhood, we had
a few beers at a local place and got to talk for a while. Always fun
to get with the moms. I like our neighborhood and area more and more.
6/7 - Kids got to spend the night at grandparents and Greg and I went to
coaches night with Doug. It's always good to attend Aggie events to
get you pumped up. We don't know what will happen in the next few years
with so many changes, but I liked the new coach.
6/5 - Of course I had to get up the next morning and fly to Kentucky
for about 24 hours, coming back a colleauge and I were working on
presentation til about Midnight Kentucky time. I had to get up at
4:15am to catch my flight back to Dallas. I was a little tired that
day to say the least.
6/1-4 - We went down to College Station for the A&M baseball
regional. We took the the kids with us which was fun. I went to boot
camp at 5:15am, then we got ready and left about 8am Friday morning. We
got there and checked in, went to get parking pass at the football
stadium and headed to the first game. A&M updated their baseball
stadium. It's now Olsen field at Bluebell Park. It's nice update, and
they now have Bluebell ice cream all the time and built a playground by
first base side outfield. Both of these helped the kids get through 5
games. They did pretty well overall with the heat and several baseball
games. A&M unfortunately lost the 5th game so the kids and I
decided to go to dinner and to bed instead of going to the later game
and keeping them up til 10pm again.
The kids love staying in hotel. We had 2 room suite with fold out
couch. So Greg stayed in 1 room, I was in the other with 1 kiddo and
then the other kiddo got the couch. Kasey agreed to sleep on the fold
out couch the first night, then threw a fit when it was time for bed.
She eventually went to sleep. Greg and Doug got to go out to Northgate
after kids were in bed. I relaxed, read, watched TV whatever and had
some Sangria.
We enjoyed seeing some baseball, being back in Aggieland, and we even
got to see the new MSC which has been remodeled the last few years.
it's really nice. The kids enjoyed going to the Chicken as usual. We
made a stop at Wings n More, and ate a few meals at the ballpark.
Overall it was a fun weekend. We drove back Monday and crashed a little
bit.
